Tips for Dealing with Taxis
If you take a taxi you will almost hit 15 things (cats, dogs, other cars, pedestrians) in just as many minutes. If you go in knowing that, the trip will be a lot less frightening.
Before entering a taxi, ask the driver if he is willing to go where you want to go. This saves unpleasant conversations later.
White taxis have meters. Use them if you have to go any distance.
Black Peugeot taxis seldom have meters. Even if you are lucky enough to find one that does, the driver will not turn on the meter. You have to know how much to pay and negotiate the price before/when you get in.
Do not give the taxi driver a big bill and ask for change. The driver will want your money. He may be hoarding change (small bills), but heck if he'll give it to you.
Get out of taxi before paying, just in case the driver doesn't like what you paid him. If that's the may yell and gesture. Just walk away.
Painted driving lines are for decoration. Taxis do not honor them. If you are a fellow driver, watch out for taxis driving down the middle of the lanes.
