Lovebirds on Sentosa

At first, out in the water, all you see is the silvery, shimmering mirror-like platform and two curved, spiky arches above the platform's edges. The lighting in the amphitheater changes to a cobalt blue. The music shifts from zoot suit boogie to an ethereal soundtrack with clanging metal undertones. Something is about to happen. The murmur of the crowd quiets, but the atmosphere of anticipation lingers.
A belch of sable diesel smoke escapes into the sky as the spiky, metallic arch of an animatronic crane's back rises up into the night. The bird's eyes open. Then slowly, he blinks as though suddenly conscious and awaking out of a deep sleep. His 30 meter tall frame bends forward as though he is searching for something. As you watch him, you marvel at his fluid, soundless, graceful movements. You are swept up into the story.

The crane doesn't have to wait long before his female companion's back rises and she opens her eyes. They look at each other, trying to suss out the other's feelings. Soon, it's clear that it's love. It's a magical love that includes wings made of water, emotive digital screens, colorful mood lights, and fireworks - the kind all romantic, first loves should be made up of. This is Resort World Sentosa's Crane Dance show (and no, they didn't pay me). Couple this with dinner, Sentosa's beachfront "Wings of Time" show (before the crane show), and the "Lake of Dreams" show and you've got the perfect romantic evening on Sentosa Island.
